Acer's first Android phone impressively specced

By John Chan on 16 October 2009

Computer giant Acer launched its first Windows Mobile smartphone earlier this year, and already, it is expanding its portfolio with an Android handset. The just announced Acer Liquid has impressive specifications, including a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a first for phones running Google's mobile operating system.

It will also come with version 1.6 of Android, which is an important point as that adds support for the WVGA (800x480-pixel) resolution on the Liquid's touchscreen 3.8-inch display. All Android phones currently in the market have HVGA (480x320) screens. Another Android phone supposed to come with a WVGA screen is the rumoured Sony Ericsson Xperia X3, but that product has not been confirmed.

Acer showed off the Liquid in Europe yesterday. We have contacted Acer for more information on its availability in Asia and are awaiting a response.

1 gig processor speed is good. mind you i have a 5yr old o2 xda2 mini and i think it has an intel atom processor 416mhz. which for an old phone is good. only let downs are the screen resolution, its good but not great, colours only 65000, and camera speed is on the slow end.apart from that, i love it

Holy mutha of **** the processor on this phone is half of what my relic of a laptop has (june 2008 model satellite L300) and, that is well, alot, for a phone. Pity I have mine with Virgin Mobile and I generally spend about $200 on a phone

Are you sure the screen in 3.8 inch? Other websites are reporting it to be 3.5 inch, or aren't actually sure.

Telstra really just wants you to make long voice calls and send lots of SMS. Don't rock their boat.

Anything which they can't meter is out. eg. you might be tempted to use chat, twitter, email or VOIP on this phone.. Naughty, Naughty customer.

Wow this looks impressive. It's definitely on my radar - hopefully Telstra will break their tradition of not stocking Android phones and actually carry this one...as far as I know they don't stock any of the Android phones currently on the market.
