Australia and New Zealand Banking Group has begun to offer free Wi-Fi wireless internet access in over 100 locations across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, in an act of generosity to last the next few months.
Customers in 46 Melbourne, 46 Sydney and 10 Brisbane cafes will receive free Wi-Fi from the bank for the month of October.
Commuters at Melbourne's Southern Cross Station will be able to log in during November. This would mean at least 500,000 people will be able to access it according to the bank, perhaps more because of the Spring Racing Carnival. Travellers on four Manly ferries and nine Sydney Harbour ferries can also access the wireless service throughout January.
ANZ claimed its beneficence was to help people who have become increasingly time poor. "This is just one way we can provide convenient and simple online access to people so they can do their internet banking, surf the net or have access to other online services while they are travelling or having lunch or coffee," the bank said.
The initiative followed the launch of ANZ's new website anzbrandnew.com, which pulls together all of ANZ's online products.
