Welcome to CNET Australia's App of the Day, where you can see some of the coolest, silliest and most useful apps in action.

2D side-scrollers and go-kart racers are great when they're done well, but I really do like to see a game that does something a bit different. Cue LostWinds, which was originally released for the Wii in 2008. The port to iOS is a masterstroke; the graphics scale down beautifully, and the touch controls are much more precise than a motion controller. The game itself is well fun, too; you play as a little boy called Toku, who controls wind powers in ingenious ways to solve puzzles and fight enemies. And I'm always a bit of a sap for a pretty game; after all, if you're going to be spending several hours looking at something, you want it to look gooood. As far as I'm concerned, LostWinds gets all of the stars for inventive gameplay, fun factor and gorgeousness.
