Apple iPod Classic
By Derek Fung on 25 September 2007
The name suggests more of the same but with more space and better value. Hard disk lag issues, video out controversy and just okay sound stop it from being a true classic though.

Great for everyday use, for me it has never had any problems apart from recently where when i lock the ipod after ive turned it off...it will turn back on sometimes-very frustrating!
- Good: looks awesome
feels solid
hold looooaaads of music and basically all media. - Bad: It does lag a bit
Cover flow is absolutley pointless..massive gimic.
- Good: looks awesome

to answer your question, ollie, the lag isn't too bad, i think they are a bit harsh in this review. and, yes, you can defiantly play movies.
great player, love it!- Good: almost everything.
- Bad: lag
no FM radio
no mic. recording.
crap earphones (buy some third-party ones instead)

I havent experienced the lag, although the click wheel sometimes sticks a little.
Love it love it.. it's my newest baby who gets all my attention- Good: Excellent wide screen for watching the vids. Sound is actually quite good if you ditch the packaged $2 ipod earphones.
- Bad: Little bit sticky on the click wheel. Could just be mine.

In short I thinks it's great. I've resisted the iPod thing for a long time but now that I have one a begin to see the magic. Simple, quick, intuitive navigation and to my ear it sounds great. I must admit I use mine more for photo storage and anything else.
- Good: Navigation, easy syncing, great to show friends my photos.
- Bad: Accessories still to catch with Apple's model changes.

I do like this iPod but the sound quality and lag of menus is terrible
- Good: Lotsa space (80-160GB)
Nice and light - Bad: Trebles are too high - fix it
Horrible new UI
- Good: Lotsa space (80-160GB)

I went through 2 iPod nano 3G's to get to this baby. I then upgraded to 80GB purely because i wanted the space and also the popularity of the iPod is to great to miss. I upgraded from my iRiver E10 which lacked features this this little beast which has made my stop looking for the perfect MP3 player....finally!
I think the criticism on the sound quality was wrong...the pre-packed headphones are terrible and i almost renegged on my purchase but once putting in some decent sony headphones, docking it into my phillips mini-hifi and also hocking up into the car this thing is amazing! I find that it sounds great and really pushes the limits of crappy headphones!
I am very pleased despite the lack-luster review above and am glad to have purchased such a great machine!- Good: Easy to use...
Finally an iPod with great space & features within my price range! - Bad: Would like a custom EQ to use.
Would have liked a sensitivity option for the click wheel.
- Good: Easy to use...

overall good, but not great. had problems viewing photos, as well as a bit of lag and music volume issues.
- Good: Great price
lots of storage
good, simple yet appealing interface
good bright display - Bad: Some photos are unable to be viewed when opened, even though their thumbnail icon is visible and they are visible in slideshow view
Syncing with iTunes can be a pain; after mine syncs it automatically disconnects, and then lags my comp as it reconnects, and you can't stop it syncing without ejecting it.
When i skip to the next song, the volume at the end of the previous song changes just as the song changes to the volume of the new song, which means songs can get suddenly loud at the end. also, the song volumes are very strangely different to that on iTunes.
a bit of lag
screen and metal backing attracts fingerprints
coverflow is sorted by artists, not albums, so if there is more than one artist on one album, then there will be many album covers of the one album in coverflow.
no capability to sort photos into subfolders beyond one folder.
no built in radio or voice recorder.
had problems recognising it as an external hard drive, even after enabling hard drive usage.
scroll wheel is not always sensitive.
sound quality is just okay.
- Good: Great price

The IPod Classic is, to be honest, the IPod that serious music listeners need. It is the only one to have any storage larger than 16Gb; but it also the best value for money. Although it may not be as flashy or 're-vamped' as new updates to the Nano and recent new-comers 'Touch' and 'IPhone', they still provide the best storage and are the only option for people with more than 4,000 songs. It also perfects the gap between size and functionality - with the screen being big enough to watch films (the 1/2 less on the Nano is noticeable) whilst still giving the ability to put more than two or three films on at a time.
Although I don't have the problem myself (I never bought much for my 1st Gen Nano) I can see why lack of compatibility could be a problem, and I don't agree with what they're doing, consumers don't have much choice.
Right now, I'd reccomend this hands down until Flash Memory becomes cheaper and storage capacity becomes worth-while for the more-than-casual-listeners.- Good: Brilliant Storage
Amazing Battery-Life
Decent Screen
Decent Audio Quality
No Lag With Recent Updates
Built More Solidly
Improved Looks - Bad: May Not Be Suitable For Exercise
Lack Of Compatibility
- Good: Brilliant Storage
