Apple iPod Classic
By Derek Fung on 25 September 2007
The name suggests more of the same but with more space and better value. Hard disk lag issues, video out controversy and just okay sound stop it from being a true classic though.

Who has 40,000 songs anyway, well, nearly me (30,000) & I am constantly cycling through them. I welcome with open arms the increased capacity. The sound criticisms to me seem like tall poppy syndrome. I have strong audiohpile tendancies, with a very decent dedicated 2 channel component sound system and find the sound criticism overly harsh. Compared with the competition I find the iPod just as flawed as the rest. Indeed I have found the iPod to respond to an upgrade of headphones better than any of the competitors I have used & the sound quality to be better than any whilst connected to the stereo or the car.
- Good: Storage capacity.
Battery Life.
Sound quality with upgraded headphones and compatible car audio.
Build quality.
Price. - Bad: Coverflow & 1/2 screen view (with cover art slideshow).
Lack of inbuilt Radio.
Corporate gouge with usual planned obsolescence requiring new cabling etc. (they all do it & it's wrong full stop - for everyone).
Sound quality of supplied headphones.
Where's the foam covers for the headphones?
- Good: Storage capacity.

I'd wait for the cheaper 3rd party cables to appear (if i were a video user).
While changes in form factor are annoying to consumers with older accessories, everyone else loves them as they sell more product. Dont like it? then dont waste your money on these extras you really dont need!!- Good: - user interface is still a winner
- i like itunes for managing library - Bad: - sound quality
- hdd lag
- Good: - user interface is still a winner

as for the video out thru the headphone jack, y can't they just supply the video out cable with the ipod
- Good: great mp4 player.
- Bad: need a video converting software to convert video's to ipod format. iTunes doesn't convert the videos.

I recently bought an iPod Classic and I love it. Only a few things that bug me...
- Good: Nice new interface
My first iPod :P - Bad: Very Laggy menu
Connecting to a computer is annoying
I hate itunes
The firmware is not cracked, Linux users need to change to windows to use their new iPods.
- Good: Nice new interface

But but classic ipods are white? What happened to WHITE? If I am not mistaken white has disappeared from the ipod line up.
- Good: 160 gigs I may finally have room to grow my collection
- Bad: I want a white one

As soon as I heard that the new iPods had arrived, I couldn't wait until I got my hands on the new 160Gb iPod Classic!!! However, my enthusiasm dampened very quickly with the connection issues with WinXP...took a whole day to get it working!!!
- Good: Huuuge capacity, u can use it as a portable HD...with the bonus being you can listen to music and watch videos on it.
- Bad: Connecting to PC's may not be as straight forward as you would think...

Very poor form by Apple. Despite the Apple store suggesting that the iPod classic supports a whole range of accessories, this is not the case at all.
Be very careful buying this product, all is not as it seems.- Good: It's an iPod with loads of storage
- Bad: Not all accessories are supported.

I STILL think that Apple iPod's are the best! I'd like to see how the new iTunes Wi-Fi Store works out but I am still leaning towards getting a hold of one of these ASAP to feel how heavy it is in my pocket though...
- Good: Everything except...
- Bad: ...no Wi-Fi and there is still no radio (that seems to bother some people)

I'm so getting one of these.
- Good: Coverflow
160GB!
Pretty awesome battery life. - Bad: Not as sexy as iPod Touch.
No different colours (like Nano and Shuffle)
- Good: Coverflow

Great little device!! New aluminium case looks and feels nice. Everything else is the same. The coverflip is a nice touch but it is/was probably more easier to browse by name as many people don't know/remember the album artwork.
- Good: New storage space (160GB!! WOW)
New User Interface
New Battery Life (haven't tested) - Bad: Still doesn't have built in radio
CoverFlip looks good, but is annoying when you don't know the cover you are looking for.
- Good: New storage space (160GB!! WOW)
