By Ty Pendlebury on 21 May 2007
A lack of playable formats and limited functionality really stunts the appeal of the otherwise elegant Apple TV. Read our Australian review.

I like to see one of the Apple haters build something to compete with AppleTV for the same price and form factor. Until you can do that, shut up and sit by the corner and cry.
- Good: design and all in one package.
- Bad: AppleTV logo does not glow
- Good: design and all in one package.

It took me 30 minutes following an online guide to allow it to play all media formats and automatically mount several entworks drives full of content.
- Good: Does everything!
- Bad: Whigners who don't see it for what it realy is!

no iPod support? what? Does your iPod have support for another iPod?
Another corporation in Microsoft's Pocket... good job CNet for landing another big sponsor, Bonus for all employees- Good: size and form factor.
definitely will not sync with my ipod... LOL, why do I want that? - Bad: my older computer will have to ugrade to N to get all the speed
- Good: size and form factor.

stop comparing it to XBOX 360, it's not in the same catagory. Can your xBox 360 sync with a computer? No, it will only stream. Does your xBox 360 have N network? no, it doesn't even have wireless. Oh, one more thing, can your xbox 360 play podcast? NO NO NO.
- Good: easy to setup, quiet and fast sync with my desktop.
- Bad: only comes in silver, black matches better with my other entertainment stuff

I'm an Apple Fanboi, however the Apple TV is WEAK! No Divx WMV AVI MPG compatibility! I'm Just going to buy a macMini to be my media server, with that at least I can also use MySpace and Surf from the couch.

Is this real? CNet doesn't even know how to do a product review? Do you even know what AppleTV is? I serious doubt he even turn one on.
Saying AppleTV doesn't have TV Turner, DVD player and web brower is like saying Nintendo Wii can not play HDDVD Movies or replace going to the gym. Where on Apple.com did it say it will do all that? It's design to bring your iTunes content to your TV. That's all. For people out there who wants to be able to sit infront of their TV and watch content, this is a perfect match.
I have one and I'm loving it.- Good: Love to be able to watch TV shows and itune contents on my big screen TV.
I can watch my slideshows on my TV.
I can stream itunes content from my wife's computer, works great over N network. - Bad: - it will not wash dishes for me
- it will not help me get a girlfriend, (wait, maybe it will)
- it will not do my homework
- Good: Love to be able to watch TV shows and itune contents on my big screen TV.

Whoever reviewed this doesn't understand what they're reviewing at all. This is an iPod for your TV, so you don't sync and iPod to it. Apple's strategy is to sell you TV shows over iTunes, so no, it wouldn't have cable or satelite TV support. If what you're watching is mostly in XVid or DivX then what are you doing? Use something that has better quality to it like MPEG-4. Quit whining, you make yourselves sound dumb.
- Good: Form factor, design, UI is great.
- Bad: Not a huge hard drive onboard

I love the comments from complete muppets - and ratings from people who don't even OWN one - let alone understand what function this box acheives. It's not a PVR and doesn't set out to be one.
- Good: Ease of use
- Bad: Price

Elegant solution to leaving the Computer in the Study and accessing your media
- Good: Ease of Use
- Bad: Not for those who like to have full control of all functions
