Publisher's description
The Zeppelin's Passenger by Edward Phillips Oppenheim Excerpt: "Never heard a sound," the younger of the afternoon callers admitted, getting rid of his empty cup and leaning forward in his low chair. "No more tea, thank you, Miss Fairclough. Done splendidly, thanks. No, I went to bed last night soon after eleventhe Colonel had been route marching us all off our legsand I never awoke until reveille this morning. Sleep of the just, and all that sort of thing, but a jolly sell, all the same! You hear anything of it, sir?" he asked, turning to his companion, who was seated a few feet away. About Oppenheim: Edward Phillips Oppenheim (October 22, 1866 February 3, 1946),was an English novelist, in his lifetime a major and successfulwriter of genre fiction including thrillers. He composed some one hundred and fiftynovels, mainly of the suspense and international intrigue nature, but including romances, comedies, and parables of everyday life. Hewas the earliest writer of spy fiction as understood today, andinvented the "Rogue Male" school of adventure thrillers that waslater exploited by John Buchan and Geoffrey Household. Undoubtedlyhis most renowned work was The Great Impersonation: it was filmedthrice, the last time as a strong piece of wartime propaganda.Perhaps Oppenheim's most enduring creation is the character ofGeneral Besserley, the protagonist of General Besserley's PuzzleBox and General Besserley's New Puzzle Box (one of his last works).Much of Oppenheim's work possesses a unique escapist charm, featuring protagonists who delight in Epicurean meals, surroundingsof intense luxury, and the relaxed pursuit of criminal practice, oneither side of the law.
