Asus EeePC 701
By Craig Simms on 13 December 2007
The EeePC isn't for everyone — in fact within about two seconds from picking it up you'll know if it's for you or not. For those it does appeal to, it's a brilliant little thing that fills a much lamented gap.

Fantasic machine for its intended uses and audience. I'm always amused by people reviewing the Eee, a highly portable machine, and making comments like: the keyboard is small; 4GB memory is too small etc. Um, hello? It's an ultraportable. Whinging about the compromises in features necessary in an ultraportable is kind of like buying a washing machine and saying "It doesn't iron my clothes!" Ya think?!
The Eee is a fantastic machine as a second laptop, ultraportable. I use mine for note-taking on campus, and download to my iMac.- Good: Size, weight, portability, quick boot up, excellent wireless connectivity.
- Bad: Nil.

But not so good though for adult.- Good: Quite good for students.
- Bad: This laptop is too small.
The display don't display fully.

If you are looking for a compact, easy to use (out of the box) lightweight and a very affordable portable computer then this is definately one of the best choices. It gives the most for your hard earned cash.
- Good: Cheap, lightweight, funky and sweet look, easy to use, works great.
- Bad: Processor a bit weak, only 4G hard drive, the keyboard and screen are small - takes time to get used to.

" An MMC/SD/MS card reader is present" is incorrect because it does not have a slot for Sony's MS.

why not install xp.....ive got my image down to 1.6Gb with nlite (and working on getting it smaller)......stick a decent size memory card in, and a usb stick and this thing is awesome.
As for the bitching about 56k modem. Man, why would you bother. Ive got them going on wireless broadband since the cost of the plans have fallen at christmas- Good: Highly configurable. Comes with windows drivers, RAM upgrade was basic, change the clock speed, add a wireless broadband modem and this thing is just awesome for portability
- Bad: My fat fingers and the small keyboard.

Quite good. Connected up very quickly and good colors as well. After years of lugging lapbreakers I would be very happy to carry it while travelling with my thumb drive no problems
- Good: Lightweight good to travel fast booting. Can bve expanded via memory cards
- Bad: Not windows only linux. More memeory capacity and solid state disk would have made it even more attractive to travelling people not just kids

It is a beautiful little machine. Just got one and I love it. Picked up a Wi-Fi signal this afternoon in a mall parking lot, and Googled right to most everything.
- Good: Just elegant. I remember when my first portable 'laptop' practically needed a forklift to get it on an airplane overhead bin.
- Bad: Two disappointments: 1) Since OS is Xandros, I expected to find their nifty bootloader, that enables you have two OS's on machine. No joy. I would like to have a Win98SE 'light' handy for some M$h*t that I still need for work. 2) Incredible that 56k modem port is dead. Why? I like to use old-fashioned analog connections now and then, for privacy and/or other reasons. Can't find a site to tell me what USB modem to buy, so I know I'll get something that works with system. If you know, kindly email me direct as well as post for everyone. thanks. mdt1@columbia.edu

I brought mine as a replacement to a dead PDA and am impressed with it.
it even likes my HP c8180 printer- Good: size, weight, great conversation starter, ease of use
- Bad: small solid state drive 8G or even 32G would be better, but that rises the price

I don't have one of these... I have two. The Eee is a great little device that can take the place of a much larger laptop or act like an amped up PDA with ease. The best part? Removing the default Xandros and replacing it with Ubuntu for a full-featured portable Linux workhorse.
- Good: - svelte design
- good battery life & power consumption (20W when charging)
- integrated SDHC-compatible card slot, camera & mic - Bad: - 800x480 resolution: 800x600 would have been better
- somewhat non-standard keyboard layout
- Good: - svelte design
