Augmented reality can be fun and entertaining but for it to become mainstream, it must be useful to a broad range of people. There are apps out there that help you decide to rent or purchase a property (see if any planned construction will hinder a view); there are apps for travelers to help them find points of interest in the city they're visiting; and then there are communications tools like the one my company makes, Atomic Greetings.

The key to success is relevance for the consumer. As long as augmented reality makes their life easier, it will be around for a very, very long time.
