Aussie game charts: January 15-21
By Randolph Ramsay on 25 January 2007
After being lauded as the biggest PC game launch in Australian history, The Burning Crusade -- World of Warcraft's first expansion pack -- has surprised absolutely no one by snaring the top spot in the country's latest game sales charts.
World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade.
The Burning Crusade scorched all opposition, becoming the best-selling game Down Under for the week of January 15 to 21, according to data trackers GfK Australia. The expansion's strong debut even propelled the original World of Warcraft to third place in the overall sales charts. The previous week's number-one game -- Lost Planet for the Xbox 360 -- slipped back to second, with console stablemate Gears of War hanging firm at fifth position.
Sony's PlayStation 2 had strong representation in the top 10 thanks to Cricket 07, Need for Speed Carbon, WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007, and Guitar Hero II. The sole Nintendo entrant was New Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo DS, which squeaked in at ninth position.
