If you're convinced that 3D is the work of the devil then you may not be far wrong after two 3D movies shot by the Third Reich have been unearthed.

Australian director Philippe Mora was researching Nazi propaganda films for an upcoming documentary when he found the two 30-minute movies known as "raum films" — or space films. But until now no one knew that these films were shot in 3D.

"The films are shot on 35mm — apparently with a prism in front of two lenses," Mora told Variety.

The movie "So Real You Can Touch It" is a musical set at a carnival and features scenes of barbecuing meat, while the second called "Six Girls Roll into Weekend" shows "UFA studio starlets living it up".

"The quality of the films is fantastic. The Nazis were obsessed with recording everything and every single image was controlled — it was all part of how they gained control of the country and its people," Mora said.

Both films were shot in 1936 and predate Hollywood's 3D "golden age" by 20 years.

We can't wait to see the Hitler reaction video for this one!

Metro Godwyn Mayer released a short called Metroscopix With Pete smith doing the voice over, in the thirties. I remember seeing it at a kids matinee at our theatre at Traralgon in Victoria Australia,
We viewed it through red and bleu cardboard glasses. I also saw it a second time at the Metro theater Bourke st, in Melbourne in 1940. I can only recall a sceen in which a mouse on the end of a violinist's bow came out of the screen. I believe from books on Cinema that #D wasused in silent picture days.

This article is amazingly hard to understand.

Are they propaganda films? Are they films by the Nazi party, or are they just films shot in 3D during Nazi Germany?

Thanks for directing me to an actual article about it, instead of some random blurb written by what appears to be a drunk intern.

CNET, I know you can do better.

3D movies have been around for almost as long as the moving picture but "Hollywood" would like you to think otherwise so they can remake everything

3D at home has been around since 81 and all you needed was a 3d movie on vhs or vhd(small laserdisk about the size of a cd)shutter glasses just like the ones you use now and a small box to sink it all up, and best of all you didnt need any fancy tv

oh and movies back then were shot in 3D and not converted like they are today so stuff really did pop out of the screen
