Don't worry, it's not all John Cusack in High Fidelity here. Ideally, audiophiles will be looking for headphones that delineate between trebles, bass and mid-tones, giving a crystal-clear listening experience that makes you feel like you were there in the recording studio. Our list contains both in-ear buds and more standard headphones that work well across a range of music styles. Those looking to replace their standard ear buds might want to look at the Bang & Olufsen A8 earphones, or the Creative Aurvana Air.

For the ultimate set of cans, you can't go past noise-cancelling headphones. Ideal for cutting out unwanted, constant noise in the background, they're suited for travellers and those who don't want the outside world cutting in on the noise in their head. If you can bring yourself to spend AU$449 on your listening habit, we like the Bose QuietComfort 15.

Want to blow the bank completely? Try the AU$1099 AKG K 702 for an open-back design, but great sound.

Bang & Olufsen A8 Earphones

The original and still the best, the Bang & Olufsen A8 Earphones sound good and look great, but if you're looking for an exciting result these aren't for you.

These headphones are great, sound really good even though they are a tad bassy, that is what a graphic eq is for!
