Best iPad 2 cases in Australia

Updated 11 May: six more cases added.

The iPad 2: it's thin, it's shiny and, at the time of writing, it's in astonishingly short supply relative to demand. If you have managed to get your hands on an iPad 2, it would be wise to protect it with some sort of case. But which case is best? While Apple's own Smart Cover gathered plenty of press, it's not the only option on the market.

We've gathered as many early case and accessory samples as we could and gave them a test run. Given that there's still a few at retail and plenty in the hands of Aussie consumers, we've also assessed these cases for how well they work with the original iPad. Accessories for the original are becoming tougher to find, so it's good to know which accessories manage to cross the iPad generation gap.

Seen a case we haven't covered yet? Drop us a line and we'll try to chase it down!

Why do your reviews keep harping on about bulkiness and adding thickness to the Ipad? It's a cover, of course it's going to add bulk. What do you want? A micro-thin protective case with loads of features and angles? Get over it.

How about checking out the Built brand. They look great in the neoprene with quite a few types of IPad 2 cases/sleeves.

May be a bit late, but @brisbanevalley - why not just go direct to the Gecko website http://www.geckogear.com/c/4073713/1/cases.html - you will find all their cases and they deliver Australia-wide.

I just wanted to find out if any of the slip cases you've featured here are big enough to fit an iPad with the smart cover on?? I really don't like these folio sort of cases that totally destroy the aesthetics of the device by am a bit wary of just leaving it in my bag unprotected as well... atm I'm using my old neoprene netbook case, but that's big and ugly...

Hi amclean,

Mr Kidman says: We haven't tested for cross-Smart Cover compatibility (and our review Smart Cover has gone back -- drat!). But in most cases, sadly no; the slipcases tend on the thin side, so you'd probably struggle. The Gecko Swagbag may work -- it's pretty loose -- but that's a guess rather than a test.
