Best multifunction printers

By Alexandra Savvides on 19 October 2009

With so many features packed into multifunction printers these days, it's hard to find the right balance between functionality and affordability.

We have gathered together several multifunction printers that are ideal for the home office, school projects and general printing. Most of these printers are able to be hooked up to your network using Ethernet or wireless connections.

The HP Photosmart Premium All-in-One C309g features a nifty touchscreen to navigate through options when using it as a stand-alone unit, and prints excellent quality plain text. Photo quality isn't as good as something like the Epson Stylus Photo TX710W though, a great choice for photo buffs. It does lose some ground as it has no fax functionality and has incredibly expensive ink cartridges.

The HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless is an ideal choice for an office that prints a lot and needs a host of connectivity options, winning our coveted Editors' Choice award, and comes in at just under AU$500.

Budget-conscious shoppers should look at the Canon Pixma MX330 for a multifunction that's easy to use and has a host of features normally found on more expensive units.

The Photosmart Premium is a nifty little multifunction with the added novelty of a touchscreen. It does a great job of plain text, but it's a pity about its colour prints.

Why do you compare devices from very different price ranges? It's like comparing Mercedes C class with Mazda 2.

Are there differences in running costs for these printers (cost per page: colour, black/white?)
