Be aware that there is no words on anything advising a credit check and that means a small drama for those of us who may have had minor troublrs in the past.
poor reliability, definetly not a replacement for regular phone
outgoing calls are great and savings are there, however the reliability of the incoming calls is very very poor. support is poor to non-existant. if you really need an incoming line look elswhere. for outgoing calls only there are others that dont have a monthly fee.
great savings, terrific for outgoing calls, incoming call reliability really sucks. service is poor to non-existant. If you really need an incoming line look elswhere. for an outgoing line there are better value plans out there with other one way providers.
Just hope you don't have any difficulties, because I've found Engin's customer service and assistance is about as much use as a telescope is to a blind man.
The Engin box appears to work fine (and is cabled to the router) but for some reason with this wireless ADSL router from Dlink all wireless connections to the router seem to drop out intermittently during calls (the Engin call continues fine). Suspect a problem with Dlink rather than Engin ...
We run a small service related business dealing with the Japanese market. This means that there is a large volume of international and domestic calls that have to be made everyday. We have been using the Engin VoIP system and have had no problems to mobile or land line phones. What also impressed me is the quality of support we received from Engin. They were happy to walk through step by step some trouble shooting with our Mac based LAN. And the best part !....we stand to save about $3000.00/yr in telephone expenses.
Engin Box integrated throughout the house on all handsets
I've been using Engin for 2 mths in conjunction with a Two line selector box. Incoming calls from either land line or VoIP line are able to be answered on any phone in the house. For outgoing calls the default is Engin VoIP and if needed by pressing * it will use the Telstra line instead.
I live in Newcastle and use the Engin one-way plan $14.95/mth along with an Engin switch $5/mth which gives me a Local Sydney number, this is very handy as I work in Sydney and can ring home for the cost of a local call. I'm also thinking of getting a Gold Coast number for interstate family to be able to contact me at local call rates.
Our Telstra bill is reduced to only $18.50/mth for the Budget line rental. As all outgoing calls are made through the Engin VoIP. The quality is fine when ringing land lines, but does have a little echo when ringing mobile phones. I have one hard wired phone and the rest are cordless throughout the house.
My ADSL speed is 1.5Mpbs and have no drop outs or missed packets
I'm very happy with the Engin product along with the two line selector box it makes for a fantastic phone system.

In summary we have 2 phone numbers, a local Newcastle Telstra number and a Sydney VoIP number ring either and you'll get us on any phone throughout the house.
