The good:

  • Wireless broadband with no hotspots
  • Broader total coverage area

The bad:

  • Costly
  • Reception can vary widely
  • Fragile modem antenna

The bottomline:

As long as you're a metropolitan broadband user, Telstra BigPond Wireless Broadband delivers well, but it can't be said to be an inexpensive broadband option.

Not perfect but Good

I use this on the train in Melb. and find it to be very reliable, although some area's are patchy, but overall the coverage is good, can take it to the country and know it works.

Pros: Coverage footprint is large, works in a lot of places you would not expect it to, ev-do is fairly snappy.

Cons: Price is high, I think the time based plans i.e. 10 hours - 20 hours are not worth it. Go for the data based plans if you can. Some areas signal is non existant.

A complete waste of time and money.

In my three main areas of use (major urban locations like Port Melb, St. Kilda & Geelong) I frequently don't get any signal and when I do, it's a patchy CDMA lible to cut out at any time and much slower than dial up. EVDO signals are an rare luxury. Disconcertingly, the Bigpond tech person I spoke to seemed to share my opinion!

Metro areas is a gamble - country 3/10

Where I stay in Melbourne (East Bentleigh) & my home in Padstow (Syd) I get no reception. Most towns between Syd and Gladstone I had signal but very poor. Some spots in major towns good to excellent, but who wants to drive around to use the Laptop PC
