    Panasonic HDC-SD20

    The SD20 features a new CMOS sensor, albeit not the 3MOS set up found in the HS200 and TM200, and records on to SD/SDHC cards, although none are included. There is, however, a new "advanced" optical image stabilisation system, 5.1-channel recording and a touchscreen LCD.

    Like it's hard-disk cousin, the HDC-TM200 features Panasonic's new 3MOS image sensor, Intelligent Auto mode, "advanced" optical image stabilisation and a touchscreen LCD. Instead of a 80GB hard-disk, however, the TM200 has 16GB of built-in flash memory.

    It's small and it's light, and it's also the cheapest new model in Panasonic's camcorder class of 2008. It ships with 10x optical zoom and a 4GB SDHC card.

    The cool factor of waterproof gadgets is high, even when there's a subsequent trade-off in performance. Anyone going any deeper than snorkel depth will need to look elsewhere, but at least the price reflects the compromises made for that cheerily tough exterior.
