The SD20 features a new CMOS sensor, albeit not the 3MOS set up found in the HS200 and TM200, and records on to SD/SDHC cards, although none are included. There is, however, a new "advanced" optical image stabilisation system, 5.1-channel recording and a touchscreen LCD.

The HS20 has a new CMOS sensor — albeit not the 3MOS set up seen in the HS200 and TM200 — allied with a 16x zoom lens, a touchscreen LCD, 80GB hard-disk and 5.1-channel sound.

Like it's hard-disk cousin, the HDC-TM200 features Panasonic's new 3MOS image sensor, Intelligent Auto mode, "advanced" optical image stabilisation and a touchscreen LCD. Instead of a 80GB hard-disk, however, the TM200 has 16GB of built-in flash memory.

The Panasonic SDR-H80 has the zoom power of a telescope and offers plenty of storage in a compact body, but the video results aren't nearly as thrilling.

At AU$2,299, the HS200 sits at the top of Panasonic's new camcorder range. With a 3MOS sensor and 80GB hard drive, we think it might just make up for the company's previous HD offerings.

It's small and it's light, and it's also the cheapest new model in Panasonic's camcorder class of 2008. It ships with 10x optical zoom and a 4GB SDHC card.

The cool factor of waterproof gadgets is high, even when there's a subsequent trade-off in performance. Anyone going any deeper than snorkel depth will need to look elsewhere, but at least the price reflects the compromises made for that cheerily tough exterior.
