updated Hitachi Australia has announced it is pulling out of the consumer market in Australia in a letter distributed to retailers on Friday night.
Hitachi is pulling out of the Australian consumer market, which includes camcorders.
Celine Herit, Hitachi's communications executive, confirmed the company would be pulling out of all consumer products -- which include camcorders and flat-panel TVs -- but was unable to comment any further.
In a letter forwarded from Hitachi Australia, managing director Yutaka Sugihara says the company will be pulling out of local sales on February 29 to refocus "Hitachi's sales strategy for consumer electronic products throughout the world".
Hitachi general manager Geoff Hannaford assured customers that product support would continue for "at least the next seven years", and that all warranties will be honoured. Hitachi's customer service number is 1800 HITACHI.

Hitachi were better value and equal performance compared to over-priced Sony gear.

Hitachi are good quality products, and its a shame to see them go. My grandmother has a 40 year old Hitachi washing machine that still runs today, never given her a problem. That's quality, although its true that no electronics are made like they used to be. Farewell Hitachi, and thanks for the quality!

I am really disappointed. I just got Hitachi 42 Full HD few weeks back! Its a feature rich TV! I agree with "broadsword(21/01/2008 03:10 PM)" Sony is over priced and hyped. This is not a good sign! I dont who is next...

im pretty sure hitachi WILL be back even though its going off now, may not be in the near future but theyre too big of a company to just suddenly die out especially in australia, although their current design for this season's television was ugly (probably the reason for the bankruptcy)

I'm very disappointed hearing Hitachi is leaving Australia market. I've owned a Hitachi washing machine for 14 years & until last month it never required a serviceman. Now I have to look for another brand

Thank you Hitachi for the best washing machine I have ever used. I am so disappointed that when the time comes I shall not be able to replace it with another Hitachi.

Regarding buying a new washing machine, Hitachi.Washing machines obviously changed since the above people got theirs! We bought an Hitachi front loader about Three years ago and it went bung.(Australian expression) when we had a technician look at it he found that the mother board had gone to God. Subsequently he found that the M/b would cost AS$800 to start before his time was added on, In Australia we have a law that requires any company who sells appliances etc. has to maintain parts in Australia for Ten years from purchase time. We only paid around AS$600 when the machine was new by the way did I say it was a font loader?
