A standard-def miniDV camcorder featuring a 3CCD sensor array and optical image stabilisation.
The middle kid in Panasonic's hybrid SD card/hard-disk standard-def camcorder range. Its standard inclusions are a 60GB hard-disk, 50x optical zoom lens and optical image stabilisation.
It's small and it's light, and it's also the cheapest new model in Panasonic's camcorder class of 2008. It ships with 10x optical zoom and a 4GB SDHC card.
Another half year has passed, so another new SD card high-def camcorder from Panasonic is on the way. Yes there's 1080p recording at 25fps, but the really big news is that it's being shipped with a 32GB SDHC card as standard.

Poor image quality, same as digicams. No usable software included. Connection to pc is hit and miss. Sound is no good, lots of wind noise and sounds very compressed.

You CAN use this camera with a Mac. I'm sitting here with it plugged into a current model '08 iMac and iMovie 08 is importing and editing it just fine. Works great with Apples free iLife software.
Pros: Size, price
Cons: HDD quality still isn't as good as minidv

Do not think of purchasing this camera if you use a MAC as there is absolutely no software to use with this Panasonic SDR-H40 camera.
