Step up from the SR45 to the SR46 and you'll get an extra 10GB of hard-disk space for a total of 40GB. So, like the SR45, you get 40x zoom, video recording on to Memory Stick and a 2.7-inch LCD.
Tall and narrow, this high-def camcorder from Sony achieves its proportions thanks to its recording medium: removable Memory Sticks. Its shape and price means it does sacrifice offerings present in most of the Sony HD range though, like optical image stabilisation, hotshoe and jacks for microphone and headphone.
Recording to HDV tape, the high-def HC9 features 6.1-megapixel (interpolated) still shooting, detachable lens hood (pictured), optical image stabilisation, headphone and microphone jacks, and 10x optical zoom.
Sony's entry-level camcorder, the HC52, features miniDV tape recording, a 2.5-inch touchscreen LCD and 40x optical zoom.
