Canon develops largest CMOS sensor

Canon has announced that it has developed the world's largest CMOS sensor, 40 times the size of the largest CMOS sensor that appears in its full-frame cameras.

The sensor measures 202x205mm and Canon claims that it will be adept at shooting video and in low-light situations. The announcement follows just days after the Japanese imaging firm announced it had developed a 120-megapixel APS-H size image sensor.

While not intended for consumer cameras, Canon states that it may be used for recording video of stars, as it's capable of shooting 60fps video with 0.3 lux, or half the brightness of ambient moonlight.

don't know what exactly it is but i think it is a part of the camera that focuses the image to digital.....hmmmmm a super camera needs this

Its a camera sensor, so it captures light. The concept is like artificial film, that captures light and information regarding to the intensity of light into electronic data, and process them into an image. The larger the sensor, the more accurate it is at capturing light, cause it contains more points to capture light, rendering sharper clearer images. This is my own understanding, and welcome people to correct me.
