The big daddy of digital SLR cameras has arrived — ladies and gentlemen, start your engines.

Packing 16.1 megapixels on an APS-H-sized CMOS sensor, the 1D Mark IV is also laying claim to being the first professional level digital SLR with full high-definition video recording. Nikon's recently announced D3S could have trumpeted this fact but it's only capable of 720p recording.

Burst rates are also a bit special, at up to 10 frames per second with 120 shots able to be captured in succession. Like the D3S, the 1D Mark IV is capable of some pretty impressive high ISO sensitivities, all the way up to 102,400.

The 1D Mark IV will be available in Australia from December, with an Australian price yet to be announced.

soulman, dude.. you should look out cheaper soruces for everything, retail prices are always high, i was kinda surprised to see that even in Canon website they put up EOS 1D Mark III for around 6.5 K, where as doing a little search on google, especial shopbot, you can find pricses on that beast as low as 4.5K (just the body though) and so it is on the Canon Website, for just the lousy body they will charge you 6.5K, fvcking hell! I will make my pick between Canon Mark IV and Nikon D3S and see which way the price moves. Both are equally powerful except, Nikon D3S supports a maximum of 720P, and 12 MP, than again, i dont care about the video feature, all i care is the raw photo capturing power in low light conditions.

Alexandra does it again. No real understanding or research evident Canon's Australian pricing is always far different to a simple exchange rate + tax conversion. The 1Ds mk3 should only cost around $9000 Australian but costs $11,999. Same for lenses which often suffer a 60% mark up in Australia. If you'd done your research, you'd see the 1D mk3 has dropped to $6499 meaning the $7999 price point will likely be where the mk4 comes in.

The US price excludes sales tax, so you can't compare it with an Australian price that needs to have 10% GST added.
