Canon Pixma MP630
By Pam Carroll on 19 January 2009
The Pixma MP630 is a good all-round multifunction printer, without winning a best-in-class prize for any one feature.

- Good: great quality prints
- Bad: posessed by violent and malevolent demons
This printer bashed me on the nose as I wrestled it out of its box. Seriously, don't know how on Earth I managed to do that...or was it indeed me???? Approach with caution! Prints are great, drinks ink like blood though...

tried to print out a black and white doc only and would not print due to 2 empty colour ones. for the price you pay I find this unacceptable as if Id known this would have bought a cheaper one that does this. use a lot of B?W for writing and this is crazy. when I purchased this also I was not told to keep the box and therfore missed out on my free canon pack. unhappy customer.

- Good: CD/DVD printing, duplex printing, lots of options
- Bad: Really goes through ink, broke after less than 12months
Was very happy with the unit as I wanted something to print on CD/DVDs. Chose Canon as normally reliable product with good performance. My previous printer, a Canon MP390 lasted a couple of years before making grating noises that indicated a terminal condition and eventual breakdown. Not worth repairing.
Updated to this present model which has performed superbly until recently. Same grating noises, probably same end result. Did do a lot of printing with a minimum of fuss during its life, though. Still, very disappointed.
Biggest gripe is that it goes through ink fairly quickly and I'm loathe to resort to cheaper generic ink.
Despite its bad points, for its price & performance I'd still consider getting another. -

- Good: CD printing, clear photo and normal printing
- Bad: None so far
I just bought this printer so maybe I shouldn't be writing a review.
But, after testing all the functions I'm very happy with it. I still need to learn a few things and possibly find out that some printing fuctions are better than others.
The CD printing to me is great. It's smooth and clear, looks professional. My main reasons for the printer was the scanner (my phone doesn't allow for a fax so scanning and faxing online is an option), printing CDs for music and photos.
What I especially love is the sample pack of photo paper provided. The manual could have shed some light on the CD printing tray and operations but it's all available on the manual provided on the CD.
Considering the price, I happy with my purchase. I don't know about the extra ink but maybe that's for photo use only? -

- Good: Auto-duplex, price, seperate ink tank for text printing
- Bad: None so far
I am not sure what these other people are talking about, but I can print mono (I'm using vista, and there is a 'greyscale only' check box in the printer properties dialogue window). The auto-duplex function is particularly handy for printing articles, and the print speed is reasonable for a home printer (especially since you don't have to manual duplex).

- Good: Print quality is oustanding on a quality photo paper.
- Bad: Uses colour ink fast. Mistery of 2 black ink tanks, and only using one...
Produced great photos on the high quality photo paper.
Not very fast when printing in colour, but it's fine for home printing. It used a lot of ink in the proces though.
It has 2 black ink tanks. Why? And only one (the fat one) is being used. The other one just sits there unused.
For a printer that does not print a plain black and white... -

Bad. Would never do it again. Can't print black and white. If I had known that, I would NEVER have purchased this printer.

- Good: Price - $198 on special at HN
- Bad: Can't print in black and white
Contacted tech support re printing in black and white - apparently can't do it. Shouldn't this be the most basic function of any printer????? If I had known this before purchase I would have bought something else. Also very disappointed in colour quality of print so far. Perhaps more trial and error needed.

Canon MP 630 Very unhappy - ridiculous chips in control - means I cannot print just mono print without all tanks being active (ie having some ink in - and tanks now have less ink ) and now the discovery that unless all inks are 'active' the scanner cannot be used GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

This model of printer is well-designed, but it should be able to produce quality outputs. It has auto duplexing feature to recycle papers.
