Oi! Take a squiz at what's hot!

New Audi R8 kitted out with 12 Bang & Olufsen surround sound speakers

In what sounds like the ultimate boy's toy, the new Audi R8 sports car boasts 12 -- yes, 12 -- loudspeakers. And you thought fitting five surround speakers in your lounge was a challenge!

Ranging from 25 mm tweeters to a 130 mm subwoofer and 200mm front door woofers, the speakers are driven by a 10-channel amplifier with a combined power output of 465 watts.

The system features Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Vehicle Noise Compensation with a microphone input to analyse different frequency bands, which according to Bang & Olufsen lets the music "compensate for, but not eliminate, engine noise". Of course ... you'll still want to hear the car go vroom when you accelerate.

The Bang & Olufsen Sound System will be an optional extra for all Audi R8s that should cost around the AU$2500 mark when it's available next year. For a first glimpse of a B&O-loaded R8, get down to the Australian International Motor Show that's on from 26 October - 5 November at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour.
