Triggertrap makes a range of products to help fire your camera, with the mobile dongle letting photographers use an Android or iOS device to take photos remotely.

As an early Christmas present, the company is giving away the mobile app for free; it normally costs US$4.99 to download. The caveat, of course, is that you also need to buy the mobile dongle and cable to actually be able to use the app. Compatible with a vast range of cameras, you can get the kit shipped to Australia via Hong Kong.

The app gives you a whole range of camera controls, including time-lapse, sound sensor to trigger the shot, HDR and cable-release modes.

If you want to see the sorts of things that Triggertrap can do, the video below by Bill Hetzel shows the 2012 eclipse shot with Triggertrap on iPad controlling a camera to take a photo every 1.4 seconds.
