Mac freezes blamed on graphics woes

In brief Apple's recently updated iMacs seem to be having issues with their graphic interface.

According to a report from AppleInsider, more than a few owners of the new shiny iMacs are experiencing unexpected interface freezes.

The system looks and behaves like it's running normally, but is totally unresponsive to any touching of the controls. Some suspect foul play by the new ATI Radeon HD graphics card, as most instances occur when playing games or running any video-intensive tasks.

So far Apple is aware of the problem but has yet to release a permanent fix for it. Users have tried to re-install older Mac drivers with mixed results. For now, the best advice for users is to reset the system when this occurs.

Macs are way better than PC, they aren't crap. They crash less than most PCs do too. I bet you never even owned a MAC.

Macs are not better than pcs, they are simply an alternative. Windows and OSX both have their weaknesses. Essentially, people who want an off the shelf computer that provides little hassle, Macs have become a target of consumers. Not overly surprising, as pre-built pcs tend to be poorly put together even more than previous years. Keep in mind however that OSX is seen as better because Tiger has been out for 2 years and has received many patches. There is no doubt that Leopard in its current state is buggy.

We've got mixed feelings about the Eee Box, and nettops in general. You might as well buy a netbook and gain the bonus of portability.

If you consider all of the options in the price range, the Dell Studio Hybrid is not very compelling. However, if you limit yourself to the very specific niche of small PCs, you'll appreciate its clever design and relatively powerful hardware.

The second generation TouchSmart as just a panel PC is gorgeous. The AU$1,999 price is fantastic as well — but we can't help but feel that there's so much more potential in the touchscreen aspect being left, ahem, untapped.
