It has almost become a trend for camera manufacturers to announce their new offerings before any major event.
This time it's the biennial photo and imaging trade fair at Photokina 2006 in Cologne, Germany, from September 26 to October 1.
First up was Olympus which unveiled six shooters targeted at the general photography crowd. Among the new lineup, what caught the media's eye was the Mju 1000 -- a 10-megapixel digicam which joins the likes of Casio's Exilim EX-Z1000 and Panasonic's Lumix DMC-LX2 in the megapixel race.
The new 725SW and SP-510 UZ, while appearing to be incremental updates to the company's new offerings, are also shooters to watch out for. More budget cameras hail from the FE-series of digicams, with the FE-200 slated to arrive in Australia in early September.
Also announced were two news additions to the Mju series, the Mju 740 and Mju 750 which both offer 7.1 megapixel resoltuons.
