At the more affordable end of the dSLR food chain, Nikon has announced the D300. Along with its updated range of Nikkor lenses, we take a tour of the D300's key features.
Next week CNET.com.au will get a hands-on first take of the new D300. Until then here's our first look at the D300's key features.

The Nikon D300 dSLR is a 12.3-megapixel DX format (24x16mm) CMOS sensor with sensitivity settings ranging from ISO 200 to ISO 3,200. The Hi-1 mode extends that to an equivalent to ISO 6,400, and a Lo-1 mode extends it down to ISO 100.
While not as powerful as the D3, the D300 packs many of the same features, including a pair of "Live View" modes for framing with the LCD instead of the optical viewfinder; Nikon's new Expeed image processor, the same autofocus system for scene recognition and autofocus tracking; and a virtual-horizon indicator to show when the camera is level.
