Elly-Mae Farkas

Photographer: Elly-Mae Farkas

Shooting subjects: Portraiture, Landscape, Fashion, Bands/Live events

Equipment: Canon Digital 350D, Canon EOS 300, Canon Speedlite 430EX flash with diffuser, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens, Canon EF 28-90mm f4-5.6 III lens, Tripod, HP Photosmart Pro B9180 printer.

Elly-Mae's interest in photography began three years ago at the early age of 14, when she started experimenting with any subject willing to be captured. She then expanded into portraiture; first taking self-portraits while she still felt her skills were inadequate to show the rest of the world.

Elly would like to further her skills in photography, as her current skills have developed simply by pressing buttons and hoping the results turns out well! Most of her images are black and white, although she also adores shooting in colour.

Photography has recently taken a larger role in Elly's life. For the past few months, she has been running her own photography business, concentrating on children, fashion, portraiture, conceptual imagery, weddings and live music events.

One day Elly hopes that her photography will allow her to travel the world shooting famous models for well known fashion magazines. Until then, she is having too much fun taking photos of everyday people and printing them with her new HP Photosmart Pro B9180 printer.

Intriguing concepts, poor contrast control and background diffusion (where applicable).

    • Canon EOS 50D

      Canon EOS 50D

The 50D is remarkably similar to the 40D in terms of performance, looks and features — but if you can spare the extra cash, it's a much nicer package.

    • Fujifilm FinePix J100

      Fujifilm FinePix J100

The J100 is definitely a point-and-shoot — because you can't do anything else with it.

    • Olympus E-520

      Olympus E-520

The E-520 adds an appealing range of features to the existing Olympus line-up of dSLRs, but mostly for the first-time buyer. Apart from image stabilisation built into the body and the ability to use older lenses on the Four Thirds system, there is not much that really sets the E-520 apart from other cameras in its class.

    • Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700

      Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700

Sony's T700 is a winner in the looks department, but beneath the brushed metal exterior lies a clever way to share photos. With 4GB of internal memory and a 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen, the T700 is a good, if slightly expensive camera, especially given that image quality isn't always up to scratch.

    • Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W110

      Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W110

Sony's entry-level Cyber-shot DSC-W110 includes face detection, noise reduction and high ISO sensitivity up to ISO 3200.
