Pentax Optio S55 User reviews

By Michael Shapiro, CNET.com on 14/10/2005

More CR Kennedy reviews , RRP: AU$399.00

The good:

  • Attractive design
  • Easy-to-pocket ultracompact
  • Large display
  • Can shoot low-res 30fps movie clips limited only by size of SD/MMC card
  • In-camera help function
  • Can apply filters to photos after capture

The bad:

  • Sluggish shot-to-shot and continuous shooting
  • Output not terribly sharp
  • Movie clips are 320x240 max
  • Tendency toward slight underexposure

The bottomline:

The Pentax Optio S55 is a fun ultracompact camera with some handy features, but the camera's slow continuous shooting and inconsistent image quality might compromise your enjoyment.

9/10

High-quality ultra-compact loaded with features!

Includes some 100% crops and scaled images. The image quality is rather good and very
acceptable for small prints or
computer displays.

Love this camera

Having owned several different digi camera over the years, this one would have to be my favourite. It has a huge screen, takes great shots, is packed full of features, yet is small enough to fit in my shirt pocket.

Damn this camera is cheap

5 Mega pix for under $400. Massive screen, tons of features. I bought this camera after reading heaps of reviews. The S55 is by far the best value.

Wow! This screen is HUGE!

When the sales rep first showed me this camera, I was blown away by the size of the screen. I bought it on the spot and have no regrets. The quality of the photos have been nothing short of superb. The lens also has produced incredibly crisp shots, and has a generous zoom lens. It takes AA batteries, which is really convienient when your on the run. I also bought a pair of rechargable AAs when I have the time for a recharge.
The camera is also incredible thin and light, so much so that I often forget I'm carrying it in my pocket. In short, my fav digi compact to date, (and I've had a lot).
