More Kodak Australia reviews , RRP: AU$849.00

The good:

  • 3-inch swivel LCD touch screen
  • 256MB internal memory
  • Wi-Fi is easy to setup and use

The bad:

  • Bulky and heavy
  • Wireless service restricted to Telstra Hot Spots

The bottomline:

Kodak's EasyShare One is easy to use and easy to share -- if you're in the right place.

Users' rating:

8.3/10

Design
The EasyShare One has a solid, champagne-coloured brushed metal look with an impressive 3-inch LCD which opens out on a rotating hinge that you can twist and turn to almost any angle. When closed it hides the display and many of the controls, making the camera a clean, smooth looking unit. Whether size really matters or not, Kodak increases the usability -- and likeability -- of the 3-inch screen by making it a touch screen. There is a stylus slot into the side of the camera for easy access and storage.

Unfortunately, the camera is quite bulky and heavy, with a boxy, square design that doesn't favour much ergonomic comfort compared to other cameras that utilise curvier, round-edged bodies.

The layout of the controls is fairly standard and buttons are easy to recognise though those with larger digits may find it difficult to select what they're after without accidentally hitting multiple buttons. The dedicated Print, Share and Favorites buttons are particularly convenient for fast sorting and sharing.

Features
The major selling point of the Kodak EasyShare One is its wireless capability that allows images to be sent directly from the camera to the Internet -- either to your gallery on kodakgallery.com or via email. However you plan to transfer files online, please be aware you will have to plan, as you must set up an account and specify your email address prior to sending anything. This can't be done on the camera so you'll have to jump on your PC before heading out into the wireless world.

You can also use Wi-Fi to transfer pictures directly to you PC , and print wirelessly with Kodak's EasyShare Printer Dock Plus Series 3 using the bundled Kodak Wi-Fi card. There's also a movie mode that captures QuickTime video at 640x480 resolution with zoom and auto-focus capabilities .

Performance
Wireless features aside, the EasyShare One struggles to stand out in the traditional stakes. With very few manual settings, you don't have much control, but those happy to use a fully automatic camera will be able to produce decent, if average shots.

The EasyShare One has a straightforward, easy to use menu system which will suit beginners but may frustrate more advanced users who want more options. The 256MB internal memory makes it quite viable to store images on the camera without the need for a removable memory card - especially when you can send photos to your online image gallery and delete them from the camera for more space.

Our biggest gripe was the restrictions on the wireless service. In Australia, Kodak has signed an exclusive deal with Telstra, which offers over 850 Telstra Wireless Hotspot locations. Unfortunately, none of those locations were in the immediate vicinity of our home or place of business, so we had to trek around Sydney a bit to gain access to the service. More so, while scanning for available networks, it was extremely frustrating to see a list of up to eight available connections that we couldn't use due to the exclusive Telstra deal.

horrible, should be called a video camera because it does it better than photos, wifi is a joke and is very restricted, screen only tilts 180 degrees, images are horrible, thumb hits buttons on back when holding to take pics. check ebay, they are selling SUPER cheap there, guess why?

Pros: big screen, 6.1 MP, wi-fi, rechargable battery, internal memory, touch screen, label files and albums from camera, crop from camera, solid structure, great video

Cons: wifi does not send to email, just emails link, image quality horrible, check ebay - proves cheap cam, check flickr, can't find others with same camera

Great quality, and solid build

I applaud Kodak for building a solid and sturdy digital camera. I like cameras solid and metal or aluminium casings, not plastic. I like to feel the weight of a camera in my hand.

People dont seem to realise that when cameras shrink, features dissapear and more chances that when something fails it will cost you more due to the size.

More cameras should be built like this - go kodak.
