Nikon Coolpix S220
22 Apr 2009 2:49 PM
We never thought that we'd describe a camera as cute, but we were wrong — the S220 is quite possibly the cutest little compact you can buy, with striking good looks for a relatively low asking price. It's letdown by the lens quality though, which detracts from the overall prettiness of the package.
Specs: Digital compact , 10 megapixels, 2.5 inch, Secure Digital Card
Where to buy? $135 to $268 at 7 stores

Canon IXUS 95 IS
15 Apr 2009 2:57 PM
The 95 IS is yet another proficient entry to the IXUS stable. While it doesn't offer any remarkable updates from previous cameras, it is pretty, lightweight, easy to use and can produce some great pictures.
Specs: Digital compact , 10 megapixels, 2.5 inch, 3 x, MultiMedia Card, Secure Digital Card, Secure Digital High Capacity
Where to buy? $170 to $369 at 14 stores

Olympus Mju Tough 6000
14 Apr 2009 4:16 PM
Though we tried to like the Tough 6000 thanks to its candybar styling, it's a fairly lacklustre camera in the performance stakes.
Specs: Digital compact , 10 megapixels, 2.7 inch, 3.6 x
Where to buy? $235 to $299 at 2 stores

Olympus Mju 9000
30 Mar 2009 3:47 PM
The Mju 9000 is one of the nicest Olympus compacts we've tested. It's the smallest camera you can get with 10x optical zoom, and we would recommend it unreservedly if it was a little cheaper and didn't have as many issues with noise.
Specs: Digital compact , 12 megapixels, 2.7 inch, 10 x
Where to buy? $250 to $475 at 7 stores

Olympus Mju Tough 8000
20 Mar 2009 4:08 PM
While the Tough 8000 may be the most rugged camera on the market, it doesn't mean it's the best in terms of image quality and performance.
Specs: Digital compact , 12 megapixels, 2.7 inch, 3.6 x
Where to buy? $330 to $529 at 12 stores

Canon PowerShot A480
13 Mar 2009 11:07 AM
If you're looking for a cheap, easy-to-use camera under AU$200 you could do far worse than the PowerShot A480. Design issues aside, it's a capable compact with decent image quality.
Specs: Digital compact , 10 megapixels, 2.5 inch, 3.3 x, MultiMedia Card, Secure Digital Card, Secure Digital High Capacity
Where to buy? $120 to $189 at 14 stores

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28
09 Mar 2009 4:24 PM
The FZ28 produces some very nice images for a superzoom, thanks to its superior optics. There are a few problems with noise and build quality, but for the most part this is a competent camera that can sit up there with its competitors.
Specs: Prosumer , 10.1 megapixels, 18 x, Secure Digital Card, Secure Digital High Capacity

Nikon Coolpix S630
05 Mar 2009 4:25 PM
The S630 is fine if you need a compact camera with 7x optical zoom, but for the asking price we can't love it considering its disappointing image quality.
Specs: Digital compact , 12 megapixels, 2.7 inch, 7 x
Where to buy? $234 to $476 at 8 stores

The Nikon Coolpix S230 is a decent ultracompact camera with a little extra wow factor of a touchscreen interface.
