ABC had a massive online ratings win for its digital delivery service, thanks to the Gallifreyan's fan appeal.

It seems that iView is most definitely cool now, with the ABC stating that the premiere episode "Asylum of the Daleks" had 75,900 plays in a single day, the largest number of daily views recorded for the service.

As we previously reported, the ABC will be making the new series of the popular sci-fi show available via iView, immediately after the episodes air on the BBC in the UK each Sunday at 5.10am AEST.

If the numbers of viewers stay high, this could be a wake-up call for the Australian TV industry ,which still finds itself heavily criticised for failing to offer popular overseas shows to the local audience in a timely fashion.

Gotta say, when I read that the ABC was going to do this release of the new DW series via iView, I was impressed - especially with it available so soon after the BBC screening.

Being one of the 75,900 plays, I can say that I'm happy with the quality and reliability of watching it via iView on my PS3 - the one which usually struggles steaming HD video from my NAS via the same wireless network (DLNA protocol errors abound at times...) - the iView experience was flawless in comparison, and the quality was fine.

Am definitely planning on watching the rest of the season via iView - bravo ABC!
