Dopod 838 Pro

By Andrew Lim, CNET.co.uk on 20 September 2006

An extremely well-equipped Pocket PC PDA-phone, Dopod has made sure that the 3G-enabled 838 Pro balances features with power so it doesn't leave you hanging when you need to access applications like Skype. Due to its size and weight, however, you'll need a bag if you're going to carry it around.

    • Good: Great all in one PDA that looks good too
    • Bad: Battery LIfe and you cant lower the ringer volume or easily put it to silent mode during mtgs - there should be a single key enabled silent or mtg mode.

great device - battery lets you down tho

HAs everything that one can think of , a little too much in fact -

    • Good: lots of new hardware buttons, scrool wheel etc to make navigation with one hand easy.
keyboard is great for longer emails...
    • Bad: i cant say its too big... cause for what it does... and the space you need to type ... see and navigate... any smaller... for what?

absolutely hands down... the best pda in the market today

    • Good: If you get, for example, a 2.0 GB SanDisk Mini SD card you ALSO get a mini SD adaptor that fits standard SD slots!

    Mini SD NOT a Problem!

Correction on my opinion( i-mate's Jasjam, not Jasjar)

    • Good: i-mates Jasjar only has BT v1.2, this has v2.0. HTC TyTn and O2's Trion has screen alighnment and keypad problems. Vodafone's V1602 has the HDSPA disabled. This by far is the best Hermes 100 version and has the latest ROM.
    • Bad: No built in GPS antenna. No FM radio. No DVB-H or NSTC tuner.

    Best Hermes Version

The Fujitsu Siemens Loox T830 has the built-in GPS antenna but also lacks the very important infrared that is why I chose to buy the Dopod 838 Pro. I also bought the Nokia HS-12W Bluetooth stereo headphones/phone answer with FM tuner so I can have my FM stereo. All I need now is a digital and analog TV tuner(Vodafone Japan has this on the V905SH) to make this the perfect PDA/phone.
