"Epson TX550W update"

The Good:Nothing

The Bad:ink usage, paper feed, no service, software.

An update on the TX550W. The ink pad has become saturated and cannot be easily replaced. Also despite several careful paper path clearings the paper feed has gone completely assymetrical, RH feeds , LH does'nt.
I am now looking for a replacement as I will NEVER buy Epson again.
It is notable that the Australain "service" experience is just as bad as that in NZ.
It has given me 18 months of nothing but trouble.
My advice- DO NOT Touch this printer/scanner for any price!

"Why not to buy an Epson TX550W"

The Good:It can produce good photo prints now and then sometimes!

The Bad:Everything else, including repeatabilty

I am a very experienced electronics engineer with over 40 years of computer hardware experience including dozens of different printers. IMO the Epson TX550W should be avoided at all costs. It appears to "drink" ink in futile self cleaning operations. It has an extremely poor paper guidance system and has frequent jams.
The software makes the use of some photo papers difficult, or impossible.
Apart from that the local NZ service people were of little or no use and the online
backup simply turns you around in circles in expert buck passing.
This was the first Epson printer I ever purchased (on the alleged basis of low running costs), it will most certainly be the last.
Strangely enough though it does produce a high quality output when set up well.
You just cannot rely on it to do so on a regular basis.
BTW the low running cost is a nonsense, my old HP 948 was actually cheaper to run and was extremely reliable.
Finally the supplied software was a joke. Even things like Windows "paint" worked better with the printer than the Epson software.

The Good:Not much

The Bad:Printer cannot print anything hen one colour out

Yes I have the same problem. I want to prnt in colour but black is out and it wont print. Epson this is unexceptable and you know it. For me it borders on fraud. Why shoulod this be so. No wonder people change printers like this after this type of bullXXXX. If could I would give this a negitive because electronicaly there is no sound reason that the printer should work like this..bad move on your part Epson.

The printer is geneerally great - but every now and then it prints dark lines over the photos. I've done a nozzle check and all that seems to be OK.
Anyone any ideas of what could be wrong. There's plenty of ink also.

I hate this printer with a passion. I am constantly struggling with error messages, slow printing and complete breakdowns in communication wherein it needs to be restarted... daily. The cartridges need to be replaced frequently, and often times unnecessarily. (the cartridge is still half full, despite cartridge empty messages) It will not print anything if one cartridge is out of ink, even if I only need to print rough drafts in black only. I cannot say enough horrid things about this printer.

I experience the same problems. I had to throw away 4 half used cartridges, and now the Cyan is playing up despite being half full. i dont like it that a purchase is required when one cartridge is done. the old Epson printers were better in this regard, apart from being absolutely slow.

The Good:Nice quality

The Bad:Won't print, scan or anything if one of the ink cartidges is "empty"

The most annoying printer I've had in my life, ¿why can't I print something in black and white just because I don't have cyan or magenta? ¡¿why?! The ink is expensive, it takes a lot of time to turn on, makes noises, tries to sell me ink all day long. This product should be banned from the earth.

The Good:Overall speed for each function

The Bad:Some parts feel like very fragile plastic. This gives it a bt of a cheap feel.

Overall speed is good and quality is right up there. Ability to use wireless and wired networks together were a very welcome addition. Ink carts are a bit pricey.
