Face detection sure has come a long way since recognising a smile in a photo. Face.com now has a tool that guesses how old you are based on a photo.

Upload a photo or link to an image URL at Face.com and it will return a range of values, from your estimated age to whether or not you look happy.

Potential applications for the age recognition technology within the Face.com API include parental controls, as well as weeding out anyone trying to use a fake ID. Go ahead and try it out for yourself.

The technology is still in its infancy, though it can be scarily accurate depending on the photo you analyse.

Quick tip to the guys out there - don't do this with a picture of your girlfriend when she can see the results... I have to sleep in the spare room tonight after showing my better half! ;)
