As Firefox 16 enters Mozilla's pre-beta Aurora channel, selected developers have been allowed to access the Mozilla app marketplace.

Where one browser leads, another follows. Firefox has had add-ons for quite some time, but, by the end of 2012, users can expect to see it follow in Chrome's footsteps, with a full marketplace of apps that will be available across all versions of Firefox.

According to CNET, this is part of Mozilla's Kilimanjaro project; that is, the syncing of all Mozilla services in preparation for the release of Firefox OS, which is slated for sometime next year.

Other features of Firefox 16 include VoiceOver, which is on by default in Firefox for Mac, and improved PDF preview support.

Firefox 16 for Android also has some new features, including search suggestions and the ability to share web pages quickly across synced devices.

Firefox 16 is expected to launch on 9 October 2012.
