The Flipboard app in its native habitat, on the Apple iPad.
One of the lesser features of the new Samsung Galaxy S III is an exclusive partnership with the popular iOS app Flipboard — a first for the Android platform. That is, it would have been exclusive had inquisitive "Androiders" not lifted it before the Galaxy S III could hit stores.
A member of the XDA Developers forum has posted the APK file for Flipboard on the forum, outlined how to install the app and added a link to a short guide on how to create a new Flipboard user account. "It's simple, I just had a Galaxy S III lying around and I extracted the .apk using AirDroid. So, there you go," said forum member Valcho.
Flipboard is described by its creators as a "social magazine", turning popular blog topics, Facebook updates and Tweets into a single, flowing document with a slick magazine-like layout. Released first in 2010, and named Apple's app of the year, Flipboard is one of several popular iOS apps that have finally made their way to the Android mobile OS, following in the footsteps of Instagram. The partnership with Samsung alone seems to be for a short term only, with a registration page on the Flipboard site stating that the app is coming to select Android devices in the coming months.
