Foxtel changes music, free-to-air channel line-up

About The Author

Derek loves nothing more than punching a remote location into a GPS, queuing up some music and heading out on a long drive, so it's a good thing he's in charge of CNET Australia's Car Tech channel.

Foxtel has added to its suite of channels with a number of new and updated radio stations, as well as an additional free-to-air station for satellite customers.

From today (1 November 2011), Foxtel is adding four new replacement channels for its digital music service: So Fresh, Divas, Kids Zone and Fasterlouder. A number of other channels have also been rebranded and reformatted — a full list of stations can be found below. All stations do without ads and DJs.

According to a report from TV Tonight, Network Ten's secondary standard-definition channel, Eleven, is now being retransmitted to Foxtel's satellite subscribers. Eleven can be found on channel 131, but satellite subscribers still miss out on 7mate, Gem and One.

Thanks Derek

Been searching for this since using XM satellite radio whilst touring in the US, it is brilliant. (Especially the Motown channel).
Does anybody know if this Foxtel satellite radio service is available for incar in Australia?
I would willingly pay the monthly charge and buy a good car set up but can't get any info.

Anybody actually know why One, 7Mate and the others aren't there already?

We believe that the free-to-air networks (ABC, SBS, Seven, Nine, Ten, and their affiliates) have to pay part (or all) of the retransmission costs. There, apparently, has been some haggling over this for satellite subscribers. That's why the number of FTA stations rebroadcast varies from city to city.

Fair enough, thanks Derek.

When will the Foxtel Satellite service broadcast free-to-air tv in Adelaide?!
I want to record fta using foxtel already!!

Further to my reply to CarloT, part of this may have to do with the fact that Adelaide's Nine Network stations (Nine, GEM, Go!) are owned by WIN, not the Nine itself.

Thanks Derek,

Any idea if Adelaide will get these FTA channels in the coming years?

I spoke to the guy about it when he installed it at our house, and he said it is likely we can get channels when the NBN gets implemented.

Does that make sense?
