Foxtel iQ Personal Digital Recorder

Great if you love your Foxtel, but it’s not the “ultimate” personal digital recorder solution Australia has been waiting for.

- Good: can record anytime we are in or out, 2 channels at once if need be
- Bad: Haven`t found any bad things wrong with IQ as of yet, jut wished at the free air tv channels were on there too as the picture quality would be great
Its an absolute godsend to have IQ

- Good: Ease of use. Recocording programs very simple
- Bad: Poor picture quality
had it about a month now and just hooked it up to a 50" HD plasma and was very disappointed with picture quality. Free to air channels come through with a crystal clear picture

- Good: Easy to use. Great web EPG. Record remote is fantastic to set programs to record. A+++
- Bad: Has a bookmarking (or chapter) facility but too difficult to use. Needed one button to press to mark selected points in recording and then another "chapter button" to source the chapter points. Would have been great to have more editing control like frame by frame and deletikng sections of recordings like ad breaks. Footage from the US (mainly) is all in 4:3 format and low quality compared to rest of footage being displayed. ESPN is shocking even on a $6000 50" Pioneer Plasma. Most of the footage from AUS and UK is 16:9 and looks great. Sports coverage in AUS is definately best in the world.
Fantastics. Make having pay TV better value for money. Beats the sh*t out of programming normal Foxtel and then the DVD recorder and then hoping nobody changes any of the channels for it to record what you want. I hardly ever watch any live any more. Everything is recorded and I what it at my leisure.

- Good: The series link is fabulous!!!
- Bad: Not being able to burn to other media - I now have 20 episodes of Pilates TV that I would like to keep but it's taking up valuable space.
I love this product and it only cost me $5- a month more than I was already paying for foxtel - no install fee.

- Good: Convenience, ease of use. The remote works very well as a universal remote once you set it up properly.
- Bad: Needs a digital free to air tuner, then you could record higher quality free to air channels.
Got mine today. I like it, but they need to work on a couple of things. Yeah, it's expensive, but it is nice to have.

- Good: Ease of use.EPG very good
- Bad: Ever present low humming from HDD,even when in stand by mode.
Will not give you better PQ.
Have had it a week now, seems pretty useful except for 7 and 10. I was hoping for better PQ though.Have it hooked up through scart to component , not much difference at all compared to composite.

When are people going to learn. As soon as there is a widely used product on the market that skips ads, marketing will only change the way they advertise. Imagine your favourite show with advertisement at the bottom of the screen while you watch. I'll put up with FFWDing ads any day.

- Good: Excellent user interface
- Bad: spoiled by Australian EPG laws - dumb and backwards australia !
foxtel are duping and scamming the aus public by proclaiming 'excellent digital quality' - well guess what - it isn't that good at all.
If you've got a modern HDtv - then don't bother yet - you'll be disappointed and have wasted your money on the tv.
you can get similar PQ from downloaded films from the net - its that bad. -

- Good: Watch what you want when you want. The Networks are lagging badly here.
I have had my IQ for over 12 months and am extremely happy with it. the 7 & 10 EPG issues are not the fault of Foxtel. We now have 3 units in the house and all perform tremendously.
