Free cases for first Aussie iPhone 4 owners

Early adopters of the iPhone 4 in Australia from launch on 30 July will receive a free case, just like US customers, according to Apple Australia.

At a press conference in the US on Friday to address the controversy over problems with the iPhone 4's antenna, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced that customers who bought the iPhone 4 before 30 September would be eligible to receive a free rubber bumper or similar third-party case to reduce loss of signal. Customers still unhappy with Apple's solution would be entitled to a full refund within 30 days of purchase, provided the phone was undamaged.

Apple Australia spokesperson Fiona Martin said Australians who purchase the iPhone 4 between the launch date of 30 July and the cut-off date of 30 September will also be entitled to both of these options.

"As advised by Steve Jobs during the recent press conference, there are a number of actions that Apple is taking," Martin told ZDNet Australia. The actions include a "free case for every iPhone 4 purchased through 30 September" and "a full refund for any undamaged iPhone 4 within 30 days of purchase" for any customer unsatisfied with the product.

The company has also recommended that iPhone 4 users update to iOS 4.1, which fixes a software error that was providing inaccurate signal strength information to iPhone users.

I heard that now apple is secretly fixing its stainless steel band around the iphone from silver steel to charcoal steel that has an non conductive dull oxide coating to stop it conducting any interference. CNET and everyone could you please look at the serial numbers when purchasing iPhone 4. Some said that serial numbers starting with 88xxxxx are the better ones than 86xxx or 87xxxx. I still cannot confirm if this is true.

It is entertaining reading comments from those who have a dislike for Apple. The iPhone 4 actually has improved performance when you don't hold it "that way". Less than 2% of users find it a problem. Most users would be using it in a skin, a pouch or their pocket with a bluetooth headset or earphones so they are are going to be happy. Just because an Android, WM or Nokia phone meets your requirements does not mean the Apple product is not a legitimate choice for others.

As my young daughter would say, "dry your eyes princess"

This is simple, limit the time you have access to a freebie and it will drive sales.Let's just forget it's a proven and acknowledged faulty product, as long a consumers have brand fever take advantage of it and make lemonade out of lemons.

What happens after September 30th? posted a comment

Why is there a time limit on this, either the phone has a fault or it doesn't is it going to fix itself after the end of Sep?

Any other manufacturer would delay releasing a product in other markets after finding an issue like this in their first market.

This is what makes Apple special, they made a big mistake but they know their fans are brain washed to the extent that they will pay full retail price for something which is admittedly faulty.

So you'd need to buy it outright direct from apple and have an existing service for the refund...this wouldnt work if you were to put it into a 24month contract?

So we can pretty much take it for a test drive for a month? Sounds good to me!
