Games we played: Editors' Choice 2004

By Pam Carroll on 05 August 2009

It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it. In the past five years, we've posted over 700 game reviews on CNET Australia.

When we started to look back at our favourite games in 2004, it was bit of a jolt to remember that those days were pre-Xbox 360 and long before the PlayStation 3 and Wii landed on our shores. (Nintendo was calling its next-gen console Revolution in those days. Recall how gobsmacked everybody was when they changed it to Wii?)

Here are our Editors' Choice games of 2004 — many of the franchises are still going strong. Back then hard-core RTS Rome: Total War stood out for its superb graphics and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas caused quite the stir with its Hot Coffee brouhaha.

Can you remember what games you were into five years ago? Let us know below what you liked about these 2004 titles or games you loved then that might not be on our list.

Doom 3

Can Doom 3 possibly live up to the hype? We descend into the very pits of Hell to find out.
