Milestones are nothing new to Nintendo. The veteran game company has recently seen a flurry of impressive sales figures stem from its DS handheld, which has seen a resurgence in popularity after the release of the redesigned DS Lite.

However, a recent announcement from the company involves a feature that Nintendo was initially reluctant to make an integral part of its consoles -- online play.

Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection service for the DS logged its 2 millionth unique user late last week, according to the company. Total individual game sessions have reached 70 million since the service's launch.

Nintendo plans to continue its foray into online play with its upcoming console, the Wii. The next-gen system will feature WiiConnect24, an online service that will send downloads and updates to the console, which will be "always on."
