The Brisbane Lion's Simon Black, looking more tanned than usual, takes a kick in AFL Premiership 2006.
The AFL season for gamers kicks off in less than two months, with Sony Computer Entertainment and Australian developer IR Gurus confirming AFL Premiership 2006 will be released in July.
AFL Premiership 2006 is IR Gurus' second stab at the free-flowing game and follows on from their effort last year. The game will once again feature all the official teams, players and statistics of AFL, as well as having accurate stadiums from around the country. The MCG, for example, which only finished its refurbishments this year, is now complete in AFL Premiership 2006, and exactly represents the current stadium architecture.
The pre-season, full season and finals modes are back in AFL Premiership 2006. A multi-season career mode has also been included, as has a training mode for those not familiar with the game. Missions have also been added to some games, which the team at IR Gurus describes as "pre-set historical moments from each team's recent history where the player must win the match''.
In a statement, IR Gurus said AFL Premiership 2006 includes more adjustable options for player and team development. "These features have been completely enhanced, allowing you to spot a strong player on the field and nurture their abilities to create an AFL super-star of tomorrow. You can also make those all important post season adjustments to your team by drafting players or by trading your players or draft picks for an existing player from another team."
AFL Premiership 2006 is a PlayStation 2 exclusive and will be available from July.

quite possibly the worst game to ever grace the ps2. Slow, non responsive and nothing more than a "tear your hair out" game. I have never felt such frustration at the game until now.How dare they bring out such rubbish and expect people to fork out $80 a pop! It's time for this company to go back to the drawing board. For me, I'd definitely rather pay $80 for the AFL game that came out on the NES. Graphics were better, and so to the game play. Please guys, take your time with the next release. Believe me, people will be more than happy to wait to see a better produced game.
