Guitar Hero II -- we want you to rock our world.

We know quite a bit about Guitar Hero II, the upcoming sequel to the hit rhythm game for PlayStation 2.

We know it has more songs -- roughly 40 licensed tracks and 20 or so more unlockable ones. We know there's a spiffy new training mode, which allows you to slow down and practice tough passages. And we know the two-player shenanigans have been ramped up, with the game allowing two different players the ability to play lead, rhythm or bass sections on any songs. But what we really want to know is what songs we'll be shredding our replica Gibsons to.

Developers Red Octane have kept pretty quiet about this so far, but they opened the gates just a teensy bit today at an Activision media conference for Asia-Pacific journalists. The company announced three more songs to the eight known tracks so far -- Anthrax's Mad House, Mötley Crüe's Shout at the Devil and Stone Temple Pilots' Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart.

Here's all of the songs we know will be on Guitar Hero II so far:

  • Arterial Black -- Drist (original track as a bonus song)
  • John The Fisherman -- Primus (original track)
  • Madhouse -- Anthrax
  • Psychobilly Freakout -- The Reverend Horton Heat
  • Shout at the Devil -- Mötley Crüe
  • Strutter -- KISS
  • Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart -- Stone Temple Pilots
  • War Pigs -- Black Sabbath
  • Who Was in My Room Last Night? -- The Butthole Surfers
  • You Really Got Me -- The Kinks, as performed by Van Halen
  • YYZ -- Rush

The sweet song list on the original Guitar Hero was one of the major factors behind its success, and from the tracks we've seen of Guitar Hero II so far, it looks set to continue that trend. Here's hoping we'll get a few more song tidbits between now and Guitar Hero II's slated November 06 launch in Australia.

I used to rock and roll all night and party ev-er-y day. Then it was every other day. Now I'm lucky if I can find half an hour a week in which to get funky
