Guitar Hero II User reviews  Editors' choice

By Randolph Ramsay on 23/11/2006

More Activision reviews , RRP: AU$149.95

The good:

  • Huge roster of songs to choose from
  • Two player co-op mode fun to play, and adds plenty of content
  • Still as much fun to play as the first
  • More difficult than the original

The bad:

  • Song list not as good as the first
  • Co-op mode sometimes feels like you're not playing together
  • More difficult than the original

The bottomline:

An expanded song list, great multiplayer and the introduction of a much needed practice mode all add up to make Guitar Hero II a worthy sequel. While the songs themselves may not be as fun to play as the first, Guitar Hero II is still a must have title for this holiday season.

Much like its predecessor, this is about pushing buttons and has nothing to do with playing a guitar. Where are the strings? It's false advertising - just because the controller is shaped like a guitar, they call it "guitar hero"? So bogus. Just buy a REAL guitar and play the songs you like. I don't understand why you wouldn't.

Cons: This rating system does not allow you to rate anything as a "1", so it must be a "2". But it should be less than "1", really.

Halobro doesn't know what he's missing (and I don't know what he's spelling)! This game is fantastic, amazing work went into meticulously reconstructing the songs, and the result is nothing short of a spectacular epic.

Pros: Super challenging. If you were bored by being so good at GHI, you'll definitely find a challenge here. Great graphics, I LOVE practice mode, and the amount of songs is astonishing. They also improved hammer-ons and pull-offs so well, which is critically amazing to those of us who use them on actual guitar.

Cons: Saying that Freebird is HARD is an understatement. It needs to have a checkpoint or something halfway through! Other than that, really nothing to complain about!
