The good:
- Retains the series’ deep and engrossing fighting system
- A graphical showcase for the PS2
- Three all new characters
- Huge list of playable characters
- Plenty of game modes
The bad:
- Many of the new game modes, like Chronicles of the Sword, lack finesse
- “Arcade” mode hidden under several menus
- Veterans may find little new in terms of character control
The bottomline:
When it sticks to fighting, Soul Calibur III is a definite must-have, featuring the same tight controls and in-depth system of earlier games in the series. Some of the new gameplay modes are more miss than hit, however.
