It's official -- the PlayStation 3 will not land on Australian shores until March 2007, a delay of almost four months from the original release date of November 17, 2006.

In an official statement, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe said that it has revised the PS3 launch date in the PAL territories of Europe, Russia, Middle East, Africa and Australasia from 17th November 2006, as previously announced to March 2007. No specific date has been in March has been announced.

Launch dates for Japan and North America (November 11 and 17th respectively) are unaffected.

"The revision of the launch date in the SCEE territories is caused by the delay in the mass production schedule of the blue laser diode within the Sony Group, thus affecting the timely procurement of key components to be utilised in PlayStation 3," the Sony release said.

LMAO, if this isnt reason enough that sony are completely incapaple of getting anything right at the moment, you sony fan boys really need to go out and live, cause it would be so sad to see you's wasting your time with sony.

Sadly, they're banking on everyone wanting blu-ray, and it's popularity, and it doesn't look good. I'm grabbing a Wii at launch, my son can't wait to play tennis against us!!

I know why they pushed it back 2 2007 4. Because of the dell battery thing. They have 2 replace those and they don't have enough time 2 make PAL ps3's by November. But it's worth the wait. It's going 2 be the best next-gen console anyway.I've been waiting since August and i'm going 2 wait until March 2007.

Why write Sony off? I am an Xbox fan boy, since day one. And I have 4 360's (two for work and two for home). So that must show how much I do like them. However I have been waiting for the PS3 for some time now with anticipation. You must remember Microsoft did exactly the same thing (delayed Autralasian launch) albeit for different reasons. If they relased as per the rest of the world, you would be complaining about the lack of launch titles, so think ahead. March is good for us, get people on the things find the bugs and by the time our turn comes we will be well sorted, for possible updates and titles. And as for Sony, I will always enjoy my 360, but if the PS3 really is the first next-gen console, then I would def. switch sides..

well I guess we have to expect Sony to do this, after all PAL is a superior system to the cheap and nasty NTSC format, so it would be much better for Sony to release the PS3 in the more limited Market of Japan, Canada/USA so that they can suffer the initial teething faults while Sony iron outs their PAL issues personally I just hope that this means that there will be a larger game base at launch in the PAL regions than there usually has been

well you get that in the electronics manufatcuring world. i just hope its less flimsy than the 360. i broke a controller already, fell from a lunge chair 2 feet off the ground onto teh carpet and broke the left bumper button!!!. the unit also creaks each time i pick it up and move it and the fans are very noisy. lets hope sony make use of this etra delay to right any flaws.
