the xbox is of the hook with all the accesories, i truly wont be buying the core.I agree with the fact that this gaming system is targeted mostly at people with abit of dough but if you look at it the average gamer can afford $400 to buy the core and expand so they dont have to dig deap and fork out a big amount all at once. Buteveryone should start saving pennys now because in the long run the core will be more expensive.

What at that price? U must be joking right? I mean that is nearly the same price for buying drugs... and yet there are the accessories and games, geez. But if Microsoft wants to keep their employees then what can u do? Save up do a lot of work in part-time and manual labor. and only rent games first to see if u like them... if not don't bother buying it.. Can't wait for Dead or Alive 4!!!

It's a simple classic text book example of exlusive marketing, the only reason microsoft has made it so expensive is because they knoe people will buy it regarless, notice how they've released all the popular titles first? If many were to simply walk away microsoft would be forced to lower the price, although no matter how effective that my be no one as a larger complex is going to. Also: several resent actions of the company in question sugest that the 'xbox malfunction' crisis has really cuased them to panic, eg. they haven't offered much of an explination, they haven't done much about it all to gether and they have only mentioned directly anything about the more severe cases of the malfunction trying to keep it as simple as a few glitches or loss of memory data (which is pretty nobbel of them as a big buisness) But in reality cases like 360's catching fire have been ocuring on a regular basis. Plus they say that they have been working hard to eliminate the bugs, but if that were true delivery of the 360 to other continents like Australia or Europe etc would have been posponed drematicly as to go through hundreds of thousands (perhaps even millions) of units and advance them in such a way would take a lot longer.

I think the current prices for the Xbox 360 is reasonable and well within the price range of previous consoles when first launched such as the PS1 and PS2. Even at current prices manufacturing costs for the 360 console are still higher than the retail price with reports microsoft are losing $40 on each sale. Of course this loss will be more than covered by the huge amount of profit microsoft will recieve from game developers. But still the current console prices are not in my opinion are very reasonable especially considering the overwhelming demand and popularity of the console in both the U.S and Europe

I believe the system is well worth the cash, I have played a US system and It is better than I ever hoped it would be. On the day of release I have no issues in handing over my $1200 dollars +... I currently have on my pre order.... Anyone who is serious about gaming should never look at cost --- its all about the expierence and to be honest if is $2000 / $3000 I still would have bought. MS have done to gaming what the bible did to religion --- IT keeps us Faith happy..... Arc

i traded an xbox and 6 games and are getting the 360 with oblivion for $604..i have the original receipt of the xbox console on the release day it was $649 also, and I remember buying a ps1 on launch day also it was more than $649...I never baught a ps2 but i suspect it would have been around $650 also, so really, that is the price of every new console (except nintendo and sega) for the last 10 years..so i'm happy to get a new 360 console for $604 with a game (even thought they ripped me a new one with the trade offer)..well worth it though..in fact, it's better than previos prices when u ad the live support and wireless controller :)

You people really need to look at the hardware that is being used in the Xbox 360, for a PC equivalent it is going to cost you over $2000 dollars. Yet your getting it for the cost of a student/office pc. If you even in the slightest dont understand hardware, or the expense companies go through to manufacture, and provide service for. Then just dont simply comment, and save us all the headache and laughter caused by what all you nay-sayers are talking about. Microsoft are subsidising the 360 heavily, just like every other console being entered in to the market for the last 10 years. They're selling them at a lower price than what it costs to manufacture and service them, and then make the money back on royalties on accessores, and licences from gaming companies. Who in turn make their profits from the game being successful or not.

That's actually false they did a comparision test and ps3 came out on top of all the other consoles, well it is is obvious, 360 is being realeased ealier than ps3 giving ps3 an advantage. It's just a console wait for a few months and get it for nearly half the price! I don't really have to worry about not having both consoles my brother will get the 360 and i'll get ps3 :D

$604? And you traded an Xbox and games for that? I must have got a fantastic offer then - Xbox premium bundled with Perfect Dark and a carry case for $649 from JB. Then got Oblivion and Condemned for a grand total of $70 from EB upon trading in only 4 PS2 games! Based on what you get in the box - hard drive, wireless controller, internet connectivity, $649 is a really great price. It's the reason I decided I should get one rather than hang on for the PS3. And by the way the PS2 at launch was the same price and it didn't have half the features.

bought it at JB hifi yesterday went it came out. all games were just $75! =) went on a shopping spree. xbox kicks ****(altho ill still buy ps3 went it comes out), u get 1 free month gold xbox live membership which i've tested out already and it's super fun so ill prolly get the 12mth subscription. dunno why but i can't get HDTV 1080i quality, so i just stuck with 480 which is still good. pros: graphics excellent, load times fast, great sound. easy to use controllers (first time xbox for me). cons: no built in wireless network adapter, cant save to usb memory sticks (unless it's from microsoft xbox), viewing files from PC requires d/l softwares (but isnt too long to setup).

If you think $650 for the Xbox 360 is expensive, then how about the PS3? $1000. And Sony plan on losing $400 per console they sell. Simple way is, you either wait until the console prices drop to a reasonable price, or be an impaitient gamer and buy it right now. Many will go with the latter, including me.

They push the whole HD angle and talk about upcoming titles but totally gloss over the fact it has a massive catalog of PS2 games you "should" be able to play on it.... reason? Its NOT the full PS3!

Not sure where you are getting PC prices from, but a 1600 to 1800 dollar PC minus monitor gets you far more powerrig then any console out there period. Yes I have an XBox 360 and a very good PC as well, the PC eats the console for breakfast, I find your lack of knowledge is something we can contribute to M$ hype and mis-information.... yes a year or so ago price performance may have been an argument but not now, lol not even close... Trinket. How on earth do you determine "more power"? The Xbox 360 has 6 CORES!!!! While the PS3 has 9 CORES!!!! About the best you can get for top dollar in a PC is 2 maybe 4 cores, and then you are paying well over $600 for a graphics card that even comes close to what the consoles are currently producing.

I just read a comment on someone buying AND using a 3rd party cooling system. You are retarded; the fans actually HEAT your xbox and have been reported to melt through the console and damage the harware. Even if it doesn't melt through it will increase the chance of overheating and if it leaves evidence of the melted plastic thats one void warranty for you, bye bye several hundred dollars.

In response to gen_x's hideously misinformed comment about the PS3 having 9 cores, it has one core stupid not 9 - the 360 has three tri core xenon processors while the PS3 has the Cell Broadband engine. The 360 is actually significantly easier to program for than the PS3 and is comparatively as powerful as it when utilized correctly so I see no deed for the PS3.
