Google Niantic Labs' AR game Ingress for Android may be a way for the web giant to gather data, but that hasn't stopped it from being tremendously fun, as the masses of players around the world can attest. It has rapidly obtained a huge following, with users joining the two factions fighting to gain control of real-world objects turned into sci-fi "portals".
Now the company is gearing up to expand the Ingress universe lore with a series of ebooks called The Alignment, penned by New York Times bestselling author Thomas Greanias and starring characters from Greanias' other works.
The series features astro-archaeologist Conrad Yeats and linguist Serena Serghetti from Greanias's New York Times bestselling Raising Atlantis series of books. They join a new character from the Ingress game, Hank Johnson, in a "sci-tech adventure set in Africa, and the hunt for the true secret behind the Queen of Sheba's gold and her relationship with King Solomon".
The series is currently planned for several ebooks that will be collected in a hardcover volume called The Alignment: Federal City, with 13 further ebooks planned after.
Published by Niantic Labs and Greanias' @lantis Books, the first 150-page novella will hit Google Play on 2 April, and other ebook retailers not long after.
